How do they know?

 - by Brittany

The other night, Jameson was sitting on the counter while I was making dinner. I have a Greg Olsen calendar hanging on the wall . I have to admit, I’m not very consistent with him about teaching him about Jesus. At church, we look at the pictures on the walls, but most of my pictures are packed, so other than the calendar I have no church pictures up. Anyways, as I’m cooking, Jameson gets into the candy jar. As I’m getting mad at him for eating candy corn, he looks up and points. “Mom! There’s Jesus!”

I had to stop and turn around remembering the calendar. This month’s picture is not one that he’s seen anywhere else. I was shocked. He knew who was in the picture, and I have never told him. It’s only been up 10 days. So thank you to his nursery teachers. I will try to be better about teaching my child the stories that go with the pictures.

(The picture above is on my wish list to get for Jameson’s room. It is not the one he saw on the calendar. He is constatnly asking us to hold his hand as he goes down the stairs or walking down the street. Mostly so he can swing from our arms, but I’ll take it. He runs up to us, or will stop at the top of the stairs and yell, “Mom! My hand.” So I thought this picture will only be appropriate for his room.)

All caught up

 - by Brittany

There are lots of post, and lots of pictures, but I am finally all caught up on our blog. Part of our lesson on Sunday was on journaling and keeping records. Since this is pretty much my only journal, I don’t like to get behind. Thankfully, I’m finally caught up and can move on to other projects.

Today

 - by Brittany

We were finally able to make it back to the park today. Here’s a picture of our tree progressing.

fall-tree-large.JPG

We fed the ducks. I actually got bit by a duck, and I’m pretty sure Jameson did too. Then headed up to the slides, which were wet. I was excited, because it didn’t rain yesterday or this morning. Then about a half hour before we were going to go, it rained. Because the slides were wet, and Jameson was in his raincoat, he went shooting down the slide and landed on his back on the ground. It was pretty funny, but he got up and shook it off. (He literally shakes his arms when you tell him to shake it off.)

Then, we met a great dane owned by two men, who were collecting mushrooms from the grass. Not sure about that. We made one more trip to the ducks, who chased us as we left. They knew I didn’t give them all the bread we had, and they followed us part way up the walk. We made it home, had dinner, then this happened.

How can such a mess be made while I’m cleaning up dinner? Oh well, it kept him entertained till bedtime. Hopefully, this week will go by fast.

One project complete

 - by Brittany

Last year, my Grandpa gave me these letters before Halloween. I never did get them painted, though. I wanted to finish them this year before I packed them away for another year.

Here’s how they started…

dsc00977-large.JPG  dsc00979-large.JPG

I was able to finish them up today. I’m not good at painting things, so I opted for the easier route. I used scrapbook paper instead. I think they turned out pretty cute, though. I’m excited to put them out next year.

H-A-double L-O, W-double E-N spells Halloween

 - by Brittany

We used to sing this song every Halloween in music in Elementary school. To this day it still gets stuck in my head. I don’t know if there are any other words either.

Saturday morning, I had high hopes. We had bought a pumpkin to carve this year with Jameson. I was really looking forward to seeing his reaction to the guts of the pumpkin. I had set the pumkin in the corner on the first floor, and it had sat there for the less than two weeks. I went down to get it, picked it up, and only half the pumpkin came with me.

How gross!

dsc00963-large.JPG  dsc00964-large.JPG

How is it that the only carpet down stairs got pumpkin guts all over it. It’s only about a 3’x4′ square of carpet. So that was the end of that. (Note to self, humidity does not help keep your pumpkins longer.) I had to go to the grocery store later, so I though I might pick up another pumpkin and try again. Well Jameson was a pain at the grocery store, and I didn’t remember the pumpkin till I was already in the check out line. So no pumpkin carving here this year.

I wanted to take Jameson trick-or-treating, but it was raining on Saturday. Mostly it would give us something to do. Jameson does not do well when his dad is gone, and especially when there are no other males around to keep him company. I decided to take him to the mall by us and participate in the trick-or-treat there.

He started out fine, but then got trampled by a few bigger kids, and wasn’t so sure about it anymore. If there were too many kids, he would rather pass on the candy than work for it. I tried to get him to say “trick-or-treat” but moslty he just would walk up and say “Peez?” Once he got some candy, my cute little frog would reply, “Dane-do.” There is a library that’s part of the mall, and they passed out books. Jameson looked at his book all night. Even the food court passed out candy.

I also found where the senior citizens go for Halloween. They go to the food court at the mall. There were tables of older ladies, laughing and fussing over the kids in their Halloween costumes. Jameson got a few smiles from them, too.

dsc00969-large.JPG dsc00970-large.JPG

Anytime Jameson got to pick his own candy, he would pick out the suckers. He even picked out a piece of candy once, saw they had suckers, put his piece back, and grabbed the sucker instead. Crazy kid.

dsc00971-large.JPG dsc00972-large.JPG

The mall was packed, but still fun I think. Jameson made out with like 15 pieces of candy. A lot of work for a little candy, but oh well. He’s excited, because he got a few suckers.

We got home, and I tried to get a good picture of him in his costume. This is as good as it’s gonna get.

dsc00975-large.JPG  dsc00976-large.JPG

Luckily, we didn’t have any kids come by. I didn’t think we would, but I did have some candy left from our trunk-or-treat just in case. I was just not looking forward to climbing up and down stairs all night. I never did hear a knock, though, so I got to relax.

Hope everyone had a good Halloween.

This test…

Turned into this bump (taken at 20 weeks)…

dsc00962-large.JPG

And on Wednesday, 10-28, I got to see this baby…

img004-large.jpg

Since Kevin was going to be out of town for the ultrasound appointment, I asked my Aunt if she would come with me to help with Jameson. Thankfully, they didn’t have plans, and they could come to my rescue. My Aunt and Uncle had to leave pretty early, because my appointment was at 9 am. We got a little confused on the way, so after a phone call, we quickly discovered where we needed to be and made it to the appointment. I was quickly called back, and Aunt Colett and Uncle Bruce were left with a two year old in the waiting room. Thank goodness, he didn’t care that I left and, I’m told, he was pretty good for them. He even held Uncle Bruce’s hand the whole way back to the car. Thank you so much for all of your help!

As I was signing in, the receptionist asked if I wanted to pay a $5 fee and receive a dvd of the ultrasound. For $5 of course, especially since Kevin couldn’t be there with me, and we were finding out if a little boy or little girl would be joining us. I wasn’t sure if they just put the images on the disc or exactly what I would find. This is what I ended up getting.

(I am only putting the video with the heartbeat on here, but I received 5 short clips of the ultrasound.)

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULpsOo47azo]

The result of the ultrasound is that this is a healthy baby girl. There was nothing to suggest a little brother is on the way for Jameson. All the measurements and images looked good, so we are thankful for that. I’m also so glad my doctor in Reno was able to get me in with the doctor up here. They are both great, and I feel better knowing I’m with a good doctor here.

Thomasson Pumpkin Patch

 - by Brittany

Kevin had to leave us to do some training back in Reno. Last week was a long week. I was trying to find things to keep Jameson and I busy, so I looked up pumpkin patches. I found one that looked pretty good and was about an hour away. Jameson had woke up super early Monday (10-26) so we took early naps. Once he woke up, we headed out on our adventure. We found the farm, and Jameson had a blast. Please beware, there are tons of pictures since Kevin was not able to go with us, and I want him to see how much fun Jameson had.

They had a whole children’s area set up. There was a tractor the kids could ride, which was the first thing Jameson headed for.

dsc00913-large.JPG  dsc00914-large.JPG  dsc00915-large.JPG  dsc00917-large.JPG

Then, Jameson found the water troughs. The kids could pump the water, and the ducks would be pushed by the water to the other end. That’s all fun and games, except he’s playing with water which is wet, and it was cold.

dsc00918-large.JPG dsc00919-large.JPG dsc00920-large.JPG dsc00921-large.JPG

There was a small petting zoo. They had rabbits, pigs, goats, a miniature donkey, calfs, and a miniature pony. I was told this donkey was sad, because his owner had come to visit over the weekend, and now was sulking in the corner. Poor little guy.

dsc00922-large.JPG dsc00923-large.JPG

Inside they barn, they had a trike track set up. Jameson wasn’t quite big enough for the trikes, but he loved them anyway.

dsc00925-large.JPG dsc00926-large.JPG

After the trikes, we headed back out to see the pumpkins. The field was huge.

dsc00927-large.JPG  dsc00929-large.JPG

They even had a spot set up for you to take family pictures. This is as good as it got for us.

dsc00931-large.JPG dsc00933-large.JPG dsc00935-large.JPG

We headed back to the Kids Koral where Jameson could milk the cow…

dsc00936-large.JPG dsc00937-large.JPG

or play with bubbles…

dsc00938-large.JPG dsc00939-large.JPG

or he could even sit in a saddle and rope a cow, but he wasn’t up for that.

Instead, we went on the hay ride.

dsc00940-large.JPG

We made one more trip around the farm, which included…

some funny pictures…

dsc00942-large.JPG

playing in the “corn” box (completely filled with corn and really hard for Jameson to walk in)…

dsc00943-large.JPG dsc00944-large.JPG

a sit in the train, although they only do the train ride on weekends…

dsc00945-large.JPG

Another run on the trikes…

dsc00946-large.JPG dsc00947-large.JPG

And a trip through the hay maze.

dsc00948-large.JPG dsc00949-large.JPG dsc00951-large.JPG dsc00952-large.JPG

dsc00954-large.JPG

I made Jameson take a few more pictures before leaving.

dsc00956-large.JPG  dsc00957-large.JPG

We stopped by the little store and got some hot chocolate for me and a hot dog for Jameson. He didn’t care about his food. He took one more time around the Kids Koral while I ate some food. Then we headed back to the car. Jameson fell asleep as soon we were driving. He had so much fun. We will definitely be going back next year, when Kevin can come with us. We’ll have to make sure to go on a weekend, though, to be able to do all the activities available including the corn mazes.

Ribbit Ribbit

 - by Brittany

Saturday night (10-24) was our ward Trunk-or-Treat party. I bought Jameson an adorable gnome costume, since we’re so fond of gnomes around here (see previous post or the Free family blog). It would have been hilarious. Well, it was when Kevin put it on him. Jameson was crying, and his costume was tight and flooding. Luckily, I did have back-ups. Some one had given me some old costumes, and the frog luckily fit him. It even turned out better, because the costume was warm and had a hood.

They had a spot set up to take pictures of the kids. Jameson wasn’t too cooperative in staying still. He’ll say cheese, but he never looks at the camera when he says it. Here is our cute little frog saying cheese.

dsc00904-large.JPG

We needed to move our car to the other side where the trunk-or-treat would take place. Jameson’s new favorite game is stop and go. Luckily, Kevin plays with him all the time and anywhere.

dsc00906-large.JPG

Jameson got ready to go get candy, while Kevin set up our trunk. I love my pumkins my grandpa made. They’re easy to take with us, great decorations, and they don’t rot.

dsc00907-large.JPG dsc00908-large.JPG

At first, Jameson didn’t want to go up to the poeple. Then he found out he got candy. So he was willing to go up to the cars. That is, until we got to a scary trunk. Then he weighed his options, and decided it wasn’t worth it. I got him to a few more cars. He would go up and say, “Peez, sucker?” He did get a few suckers, but in the end he liked to pass out the candy with Dad more than retrieving it.

dsc00909-large.JPG  dsc00911-large.JPG

We finished passing out our candy, then headed home. We were exhausted after a long day with Dad, and then the trunk-or-treat.

Trick or Treating underground?

 - by Brittany

Not really. It was two separate events, but on the same day. While we were deciding what touristy things to do on Saturday (10-24) while dad was here, Underground Tour was number one on the list. There were a few things we wanted to show Dad, but this was number one on the list. We decided we would see how much time we had once we got into the city. Despite our shopping trip the previous day, Dad still didn’t find shoes he wanted. As we were driving closer to downtown Seattle, I spotted a huge REI. We decided to stop and try it out.

We parked the car, and, with some difficulty, figured out how to work the parking meter machine. Thankfully, some guy parked behind us and told us how and where to put the ticket in our car window. We turned the corner to find the entrance, and… no entrance. This is where you entered, but there were biking and hiking trails to test gear that you had to walk in order to get to the elevator that went up to the entrance. We were all a little confused.

(Sorry the pictures are not the best quality. I remembered my camera, but forgot to grab my memory card. Therefore, all pictures were taken with my Dad’s new Iphone.)

1-large.JPG  9-large.JPG

Needless to say, REI was huge. Jameson found some bikes that he loved. We might need to get him a Skuut. It’s a pretty cool balance training bike. It has no peddles, and is lower so the kids can touch the ground easily. Anyway, his favorite was the pink bike with a basket, bell, and pink and white tassels on the handle bars. Kevin said no to that bike.

After REI, we headed over, parked in Pioneer Square, and bought tickets for the Underground Tour. Dad checked out the gift shop for some postcards, and then we started our walk to Ivar’s.

2-large.JPG

Dad said he wanted good seafood while here, so we went to the only place we know for sure is good. We had a delicious meal, and Jameson could watch the boats out the window since the restaurant is on the pier.

Jameson was making fishy faces, and giving his grandpa fishy kisses.

3-large.JPG  4-large.JPG

While we waited for the tour to start, we played in the square. Jameson played with the birds, and wanted to touch the  bird at the top of the todem pole. Nice try, right? My dad tried to take a picture with Jameson, but he was not having it.

5-large.JPG  6-large.JPG (I love Jameson’s face in this picture.)

7-large.JPG

Jameson did pretty well on the tour. About half way through, Kevin started letting him play games on his phone which worked out well. I alway like hearing about the history, but our guide didn’t give as much information as when we were here on our honeymoon. We’d fill Dad in on things we’ve learned from before that our guide left out. I think Dad still enjoyed it, especially seeing the architechture.

10-large.JPG  11-large.JPG  12-large.JPG

Throughout the whole day, we kept seeing people dressed up as zombies all around. On the tour, our guide told us they were doing a remake of “Thriller” in the park downtown (it’s more like a plaza) at 5:30. That explained all the zombies. As it got closer to that time, makeup artists came out, and anyone dressed up could get their makeup done. We finished our tour, and Dad had to get his picture taken with zombies. Too bad we couldn’t stay for the filming.

13-large.JPG  14-large.JPG  15-large.JPG

Can you spot Jameson and Kevin in the last picture?

While Dad was getting his picture with the zombies, Jameson wanted to see the horse. The police even made an appearance to manage all the zombies.

8-large.JPG

We made one more quick stop at the candy store and bought some chocolates. Then we headed to the airport to drop Dad off. He was headed from here to Alaska. My cousin was blessing her little boy, Mont, and he was going to be part of that. (By the way, her blog is amazing. She makes me jealous, it’s true.  Check her out. http://jaycijr.blogspot.com/)

16-large.JPG

After we dropped off my dad, we headed home to change Jameson’s clothes. It was our ward trunk-or-treat that night, so we hurried home, changed Jameson and grabbed our decorations.
