Trick or Treating underground?

 - by Brittany

Not really. It was two separate events, but on the same day. While we were deciding what touristy things to do on Saturday (10-24) while dad was here, Underground Tour was number one on the list. There were a few things we wanted to show Dad, but this was number one on the list. We decided we would see how much time we had once we got into the city. Despite our shopping trip the previous day, Dad still didn’t find shoes he wanted. As we were driving closer to downtown Seattle, I spotted a huge REI. We decided to stop and try it out.

We parked the car, and, with some difficulty, figured out how to work the parking meter machine. Thankfully, some guy parked behind us and told us how and where to put the ticket in our car window. We turned the corner to find the entrance, and… no entrance. This is where you entered, but there were biking and hiking trails to test gear that you had to walk in order to get to the elevator that went up to the entrance. We were all a little confused.

(Sorry the pictures are not the best quality. I remembered my camera, but forgot to grab my memory card. Therefore, all pictures were taken with my Dad’s new Iphone.)

Needless to say, REI was huge. Jameson found some bikes that he loved. We might need to get him a Skuut. It’s a pretty cool balance training bike. It has no peddles, and is lower so the kids can touch the ground easily. Anyway, his favorite was the pink bike with a basket, bell, and pink and white tassels on the handle bars. Kevin said no to that bike.

After REI, we headed over, parked in Pioneer Square, and bought tickets for the Underground Tour. Dad checked out the gift shop for some postcards, and then we started our walk to Ivar’s.

Dad said he wanted good seafood while here, so we went to the only place we know for sure is good. We had a delicious meal, and Jameson could watch the boats out the window since the restaurant is on the pier.

Jameson was making fishy faces, and giving his grandpa fishy kisses.

While we waited for the tour to start, we played in the square. Jameson played with the birds, and wanted to touch the  bird at the top of the todem pole. Nice try, right? My dad tried to take a picture with Jameson, but he was not having it.

Jameson did pretty well on the tour. About half way through, Kevin started letting him play games on his phone which worked out well. I alway like hearing about the history, but our guide didn’t give as much information as when we were here on our honeymoon. We’d fill Dad in on things we’ve learned from before that our guide left out. I think Dad still enjoyed it, especially seeing the architechture.

Throughout the whole day, we kept seeing people dressed up as zombies all around. On the tour, our guide told us they were doing a remake of “Thriller” in the park downtown (it’s more like a plaza) at 5:30. That explained all the zombies. As it got closer to that time, makeup artists came out, and anyone dressed up could get their makeup done. We finished our tour, and Dad had to get his picture taken with zombies. Too bad we couldn’t stay for the filming.

Can you spot Jameson and Kevin in the last picture?

While Dad was getting his picture with the zombies, Jameson wanted to see the horse. The police even made an appearance to manage all the zombies.

We made one more quick stop at the candy store and bought some chocolates. Then we headed to the airport to drop Dad off. He was headed from here to Alaska. My cousin was blessing her little boy, Mont, and he was going to be part of that. (By the way, her blog is amazing. She makes me jealous, it’s true.  Check her out. http://jaycijr.blogspot.com/)

After we dropped off my dad, we headed home to change Jameson’s clothes. It was our ward trunk-or-treat that night, so we hurried home, changed Jameson and grabbed our decorations.
