December Recap

 - by Brittany

The weekend before Christmas we headed to Salt Lake for a family Christmas Party. My brother is transferring to BYU so we packed up his stuff and hauled it for him. Amazingly, we fit everything, thanks to Kev’s great packing skills.

The roads were clear the entire way, just dang cold. The warmest our temperature gage showed the entire way, was when we got to SLC at 32 degrees. My Grandpa made some cute chairs and benches for the grandkids, and Jameson made good use of his right by Grandma’s tree. We got to spend lots of time at Aunt Valerie’s house, and she has the cute little caroling dolls. They have computer chips so they all take part in the songs. Jameson loved them and kept trying to figure them out. (Along with her tree that spun.)

We had such a fun time in Utah, and Jameson did surprisingly well in the 8-9 hour car ride. It’s never Christmas without seeing my grandparents. We drove home Sunday, and then Paul, Jameson, and I got ready to go to Sacramento for the week. Monday we drove over to spend the week at my mom’s along with my sister and her boys. Christmas eve, my mom was kind enough to watch the 3 boys while we went snowboarding. Kev had stayed home to get work done, so he drove over that morning to meet us to go snowboarding. Well it was a snowstorm, and even though he left home at 4:30 in the morning, when we got to Auburn at 7:00 he still hadn’t made it over the pass. (He wanted to get the car he was in over the pass since it wasn’t 4 wheel drive and the snow was only suppose to get worse.) So while we waited in Auburn we found this little Cafe. It was like walking into an old Christmas movie! There was a counter full of people over at least 60, drinking coffee. One lady greeted us very loudly and told, “You kids sit anywhere you like.” Then another guy who I’m pretty sure worked at a Christmas tree lot, that was sitting at the counter, got us our water. Bessy came out and told us that she was a “one woman show” this morning till more helped arrived. She took our order, and then went back and cooked it. She was a little old thing, but you could tell she was tough.

We almost forgot to take a pic of the outside so people would believe us.

We finally made it up to Northstar. Even though it was snowing it was a pretty good day. The boys wanted to hit the backside like the second time down. Christina was a little concerned for the cliff ahead of her.

The three boys are on the left and Christina is making her way down on the right.

We left the boys and stuck to our blue and once in a while black runs. When I was finally breaking through the burning and feeling good, Christina couldn’t make it anymore so we called it quits and found the lodge. (Having babies takes it out of you, that’s for sure!)

The girls opened their presents Christmas Eve since they were at their mom’s for Christmas.

Santa set out our stocking and Jameson’s trucks. All the presents while they were still wrapped nice and pretty.

The boys found the trucks first. I think my mom was the most excited to open presents. We got up (not early since there are no kids that know what Christmas is yet and the rest are grown) and had a german pancakes. We had brought our homegrown bacon and sausage which added a some yumminess to the breakfast. After breakfast we moved to the living room for our surprises.

My wonderful husband got me concert tickets to Brooks & Dunn out at Primm. I love the thought he puts into my presents! He knows I miss my friends down in Vegas, and my sister. Last year he bought Brad Paisley tickets in Vegas. He buys enough for me, my sister, and my friends, so we can have a girls night together. Last year we ended up on the front row. Maybe that will happen again. I’m so excited to spend some time with my girls!

I think the best gift went to Weston. Paul bought him the HALO sword, and Weston just happen to be wearing a HALO shirt that morning. Pretty funny.

And one of the best ways to end Christmas morning is…

Put a big smile on mom’s face! What made the smile appear you ask? Well, my mom bought my step-dad a harmonica. He was a little confused by it so her reply was, “Well you always said you wanted to be musically inclined. So I bought a harmonica cause you’re really good at blowing in and out.” So what I thought was merely under my breath so my husband could here me was apparently a little louder than that, and I replied, “That’s what she said.” It took about 30 seconds before everything clicked in my mom’s head. Glad to know I can still put a smile on her face.

And that was Christmas!
